Adoption Songs Heart Logo

Wendy Spira

Wendy Spira, a Detroit native, read an article in Glamour magazine in the early 80s about single parent adoption, and when she was 35, decided to pursue a child of her own that way. Livng in Chicago, she became a founding member of the first Chicago-area single parent adoption support group before her daughter Lia came home from India in 1987.

Moving to Nashville in 1988 after marrying a Nashville musician, she became reacquainted with Lisa Silver, also from the same area in Detroit, and coincidentally a long-time friend of her husband's. Lisa became increasingly interested and inspired by Wendy's adoption experience, and with Wendy's help and encouragement, Lisa brought Olivia home from South America in 1991.

During the wait for Olivia, Lisa suggested the idea to Wendy of creating a unique collection of songs based on their individual and collective experiences during the adoption process. With Lisa's vocal talent and Wendy's husband's recording studio, they created "My Forever Family."
